Exploring models for sustainability to expand Africa’s manufacturing base

Reliance on imported medical products creates vulnerabilities in Africa’s pharmaceutical supply chain and impedes equitable access to medical products. Several new continental initiatives aim to expand sustainable regional production of vaccines, therapeutics, and other essential medical products. Africa CDC, USP, Medicines Patent Pool, and Unitaid will convene a discussion to explore how current initiatives are leveraging new technologies, optimizing production processes, implementing strategic market shaping initiatives, and harnessing the power of civil society to sustainably strengthen Africa’s biopharmaceutical sector. Panelists will discuss models for ensuring sustainability and offer tangible lessons learned to inform ongoing initiatives.
