Innovation as the backbone for eliminating NTDs and achieving UHC

In Africa, 21 countries have successfully eliminated at least one NTD, thanks to the critical role of research and innovation. To achieve the ambitious targets outlined in the WHO NTD Roadmap and the Sustainable Development Goals, it is essential to continuously innovate and adapt to evolving challenges in disease elimination.

Operational research and evidence-based innovation are vital for eliminating diseases. Despite notable progress, persistent gaps remain, particularly in tools for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, which are critical actions needed to meet global elimination goals.
This session will showcase successful innovations that have helped accelerate NTD elimination and will discuss lessons to inform future strategies. We will also discuss the impact of climate change and innovation gaps, particularly on women and children, who are disproportionately affected by NTDs.
