Born in Senegal and raised in France, Anna Diom’s journey into perinatal care began in 2018 during her first pregnancy in Dubai. After attending a childbirth preparation course led by a well-meaning French instructor, she found the experience lacking—particularly in its connection to her Afro cultural roots. This sparked a deep desire to explore more inclusive and empowering approaches to childbirth.
Driven by curiosity and purpose, Anna immersed herself in the World Health Organization’s guidelines on positive childbirth. In 2021, she completed internationally recognized training programs, including DONA International, LAMAZE, and Lactation Education Resources, solidifying her expertise in perinatal support. That same year, she returned to Senegal and founded Sama Doula, a practice dedicated to culturally attuned care.
Recognizing the growing demand for accessible and culturally relevant support across Africa and the diaspora, Anna launched fully virtual birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum preparation programs in 2024. These online offerings have enabled more women to prepare for motherhood with confidence and cultural resonance.
In September 2024, embracing her specialized knowledge and deep commitment to Afro-descendant women, Anna rebranded her practice as “Anna Diom, Expert in AfroMaternity.” Her work continues to bridge tradition, science, and empowerment for women navigating the transformative journey of motherhood.
