Dr Elijah J. Muchima is Zambia’s Minister of Health, appointed on 21 July 2024 after a cabinet reshuffle that moved him from Lands and Natural Resources, a portfolio he led from September 2021.
He has served as the Member of Parliament for Ikeleng’i since 2006. As Health Minister he has focused on reliable access to essential medicines, strengthening the health workforce, and financial accountability in the sector.
He has represented Zambia in regional and global fora, calling for deeper African collaboration on health systems at a WHO Africa ministerial gathering in 2025 and delivering Zambia’s statement at the UN Commission on Population and Development
