Dr. Paul A. N. Ngwakum is the Regional Health Adviser at UNICEF’s Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO), which supports 21 countries across the region. He has represented UNICEF publicly on priority health issues, including briefing the UN press corps on the mpox emergency in Burundi in September 2024.
He previously served as UNICEF Zimbabwe’s Chief of Health and Nutrition and later as Deputy Representative a.i., and earlier was Chief of Health and Nutrition for UNICEF Zambia. His technical leadership spans immunisation, health systems strengthening, emergency response and medical oxygen access, with speaking roles at CPHIA 2023 and the Global Oxygen Alliance’s regional forum.
